Testing files

This function lets you check the integrity/readability of your files, which is especially useful with less reliable media like DVD and flash drives.

  1. Create a file list with files that require testing.
    • Using Explorer context menu:
      • Right-click on selected file(s) and select TeraCopy...
    • Using Start Menu:
      • Press Windows button and type TeraCopy.
      • Click More... button and select Add file/folders...
  2. Click Test button to read all files from the disk and generate checksums.
  3. Click Save hash button to save checksum file in the source directory.

To change from default MD5 to another hash method, click on Options tab and select Test on the left side. To save this permanently, click on Menu button (≡) next to Options tab and select Save as default.

MD5 is the most commonly used method, use it if you want to pass .md5 files to other people or applications.

xxHash is the less common, but faster hash method.
